The experiences of setting up an online shop

The experiences of setting up an online shop.

I had been considering for some time the idea of setting up an online shop. Several people at fairs had asked me if I sold my products online, and I knew it was something I should seriously consider for the future. However, like many others of my ‘era’ the thought of doing this on my own was a little bit scary.

I looked at the possibility of upgrading my original website, but the cost was more than my little business could support, a bigger package wasn’t in my price range right now. As with all small businesses rents are soaring, utility bills, internet, etc; are endlessly increasing. But I really could realise the need for me to sell my products to a wider market.

Meanwhile, a lovely lady who had recently been on a workshop with me had spoken to me about this and offered to help. I must admit I wasn’t sure at first, it’s a lot to ask of someone to teach me with my limited technology skills how to set this thing up and especially to remember everything that she has shown me!!

Anyway, here I am embarking on this journey that I'm not going to lie, is really testing my skills and scrambling my brains at times, but I’m so enjoying the challenge.

One thing she told me I needed was a professional photo shoot session, this was the easiest task for me as I’m lucky to have a nephew who is a whizz behind the lens. I couldn’t believe how good things looked in photographs that are professionally taken with correct lighting, composition etc; and now I find myself looking at my products through a completely different lens too.

Less positives have been making time for the administration work, in the run up to Christmas which is crazy. You just have to make the time if you want to succeed is my mantra at the moment.

Also, the endless harassment of professional business advisors who get in touch to say how much better they can make your site, even when it’s not yet launched. If I was to choose any of them, I would choose a  positive advisor over a negative individual. Luckily for me , I’m very satisfied with the advice I’m receiving.

Next stage is launching, so wish me luck. Hopefully I will be up and running very soon now . To anyone else considering this journey I would say, 'nothing ventured nothing gained', so far I'm glad I've done this.
